REAV-60

Long Endurance Multi-Purpose Uncrewed Surface Vessel

Developed in 2021, the REAV-60 is HydroSurv’s most advanced multi-purpose USV - offering long-endurance, BVLoS capability for a wide range of offshore survey and inspection applications.

Central to the aim of delivering a high-integrity, reliable and trusted USV, the REAV-60 was developed in-stride with HydroSurv’s proprietary command and control system ‘Virtual Watchkeeper’. Redundancy and watchdog features are embedded into an architecture which provides control and monitoring of multiple shipboard systems and mission-specific equipment.

Constructed under survey by Lloyd's Register to a Special Service Craft (SSC) compliant design, the REAV-60 is a de-risked investment ideally-suited to self-transiting campaigns within hydrographic, oceanographic and environmental data collection or offshore asset inspection. With its 200kg payload capacity, the USV can carry a wide range of sensors or other mission-specific equipment such as winches or inspection-class ROV systems.

Extensive hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analysis during design have delivered a symmetrically-hulled aluminium catamaran design that blends energy-efficiency with excellent seakeeping characteristics.

The independently-steered 3.8kW electric pod motors provide exceptional manoeuvrability whilst underway and station-keeping. Powered by an efficient hybrid powertrain consisting of a 6kW diesel generator and 22kWh lithium batteries, the REAV-60 delivers persistent operations at sea using just 2 litres of fuel per hour at maximum load.

Working in close collaboration with our industry partners, HydroSurv has implemented a number of intelligent optimisations into the hybridisation control. These include the ability to geofence ‘quiet zones’ within the front end system to reduce underwater radiated noise at certain points during the mission and the ability to arrive at certain waypoints with batteries fully charged.
